My Mission...

I started AJW Specialty Lumber in 1998 because of my lifelong passion for wood. From a young age, I spent time cutting firewood and now manage 300 acres of bush. I have experience in logging, sawing and drying of wood. These activities have given me many insights into the nature of wood. However, and perhaps most importantly, I have a passion for fine woodworking, which allows me to appreciate the complex relationship between you and your work.

In a world that seems increasingly disinterested in the true craftsmanship of woodworking, I am committed to keeping alive the subtleties of wood. This means I am committed to sourcing lumber of a uniquely high quality. I consider many factors above those required by the NHLA grade rules, such as differences in colour or hardness found in the sample species growing in different regions, or the effect that improper drying can have on the appearance and workability of wood.

Despite the importance of design and skill, a fine piece will never be realized without the right cut of wood. Experience tells me that using inferior materials can lead to disappointment not to mention wasting hours of your valuable time, ultimately, your hard earned dollar.

I pride myself on my ability to work with people to determine their individual requirements and then to supply the lumber that best suits their needs at a competitive price.
